DIRECTOR OPPORTUNITIES FOR 2014-2015 SEASON:
We are advertising all the opportunities to direct a play next year so everyone has a chance to prepare their application and gather their ideas. If you have any questions regarding any of these opportunities, feel free to e-mail us at any time. All directing opportunities are as follows:
UTMDC MAIN PRODUCTION:*
Director(s) of UTMDC’s main production are selected by application and vote of UTMDC executive council. If the executive council finds it necessary, there may be an online/phone interview process. To apply, we ask candidates to e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the application forms. A candidate may propose a specific play, a directorial concept, and/or any plan they have in mind.** Alternatively, you may simply state that you are interested in directing without a formal proposal of a play. Applications to direct our annual production are due on Friday, August 1st, 2014 at 11:59 PM via e-mail.
U OF T DRAMA FESTIVAL:
The UTMDC will be producing up to three student-written plays to be performed at the annual U of T Drama Festival at Hart House Theatre in February 2015. It is often the case that the student playwrights chooses not to direct the show themselves. In these cases, the playwright may personally seek a person to direct or ask the UTMDC to make a call for directors. If you would like to be contacted when a playwright is seeking a director for the Drama Festival, please send us an e-mail. We encourage playwrights and directors to pair up and work together on their application and submission.
UTM ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL:
A new event to our season next year is the One-Act Play Festival. This two-night festival will comprise of up to three student-written, student-directed productions in the second semester of next year. Each show will be performed both nights of the festival. Similar to the application process for the U of T Drama Festival, the playwright may personally seek a person to direct, or may ask the UTMDC to make a call for directors. If you would like to be contacted in this case, please send us an e-mail. We encourage playwrights and directors to pair up and work together on their application and submission.
*We encourage candidates to e-mail us sooner rather than later, so they can see the application and take time over the next few months to work on their proposal, if they so choose.
**We are looking for a show with a minimum cast of 8, both male and female. A candidate may also propose if they have anyone in mind for co-director/assistant director, stage manager, or crew members.
