About the Play: Penny is an eleven-year-old girl who can’t stop talking. The man she meets by a gully never says enough. While the characters themselves are light-hearted and their friendship often humorous, the dark undertones of Penny’s life and the man’s past cannot stay secret for long.

The News is Out! We have chosen our show!

The news is out. The UTM Drama Club’s production this year is: Arcadia by Tom Stoppard. It is a comedy, by one of the most highly regarded contemporary playwrights. Check out the synopsis below. You can still sign-up for auditions for either Monday October 15 form 12 pm to 2 pm, or Friday October 19 from 6 to 8 pm, however the available time slots are filling up!Arcadia is set in Sidley Park, an English country house, in both the years 1809–1812 and the present day. The activities of two modern scholars and the house’s current residents are juxtaposed with the lives of those who lived there 180 years earlier.

In 1809, Thomasina Coverly, the daughter of the house, is a precocious teenager with ideas about mathematics well ahead of her time. She studies with her tutor Septimus Hodge, a friend of Lord Byron who is an unseen guest in the house. In the present, a writer and an academic converge on the house: Hannah Jarvis, the writer, is investiga

ting a hermit who once lived on the grounds; Bernard Nightingale, a professor of literature, is investigating a mysterious chapter in the life of Byron. As their investigations unfold, helped by Valentine Coverly, a post-graduate student in mathematical biology, the truth about what happened in Thomasina’s lifetime is gradually revealed.”Pure entertainment for the heart, mind, soul…The best Broadway play for many, many a season. It is a work shot through with fun, passion and, yes, genius.” – The New York Post
